How to build a strong credit rating? (Part2)
Check your credit history for errors. I once found a CCJ had been accidentally registered against me at an address I had lived previously. I was furious, it was from a charity that had sent out a pack of cards, asking me to pay for them or return them. I hadn't lived at that address at the time of them sending the "Offending Cards". Never the less, they had posted them out with my name on and had apparently not had them returned. I hadn't actually known a thing about this, but a CCJ has been granted to them just the same. This event very nearly stopped me obtaining a mortgage. Be warned, CJ's are a matter of public record for 6 years and cannot be removed. I had to contact the company in question, set a solicitor on them. The only they or any one could do was to provide me a letter, to explain via the phone, that an error had occurred. This thankfully sufficed and I got my mortgage in the end. So check your credit score it is especially important if you will soon be requesting a time-dependent loan, like a mortgage. Don't get caught out like I was! Ok I have bad credit and it is my fault. The bad news is that past credit problems like late bill payments or accounts referred to collection agencies and the like will stay on your credit report. This is unavoidable. The good news is that they affect your credit rating less as time goes by. You can lessen the sting of your less - than - perfect history by habitually paying current bills on time. Your report changes gradually as new information is added to your bank and credit bureau files, and credit issuers give more weight to your recent bill-paying history. A clean record for the last year or two can make all the difference and allow you to claim credit based on your more recent credit history.
